School Sport Newsletter: 10th March 2022
Swimming - Region Championship
The following 14 students will now compete in the Regional Swimming Championship's to be held in Sale on Thursday 17th March.
Under 11 Girls Freestyle team of Aliza Couling, Harlow Sexton, Ivy Crawford and Iris Knowles.
Under 11 Boys Freestyle team of Bailey Heafield, Harry Kurrle, Darcy Couling and Harry Giblett.
Under 12/13 Boys Freestyle team of Dempsey Podmore, Joshua Elms, Oliver Jones and Levi O’Neil.
Individual swimmers will also compete at the Regional Swimming event including the following:
Autumn Switzer - U9/10 Backstroke
Sporting Schools Grant - Tennis
Over the last three weeks Mr Graham Charlton from the Traralgon Tennis Club has been coming to the school to run tennis lessons during the students physical education time as a part of our successful application of the Schools Sporting Grant. Mr Charlton is also known as “Woofa” in the Traralgon Sporting Community. I would like to thank Mr Charlton for passing his knowledge and skills of the game to the students at St Gabriel’s. The students had a wonderful time learning the skills of the game.
Sporting Achievements- Gymkhana (Noah Harle)
Noah Harle from Grade 1 competed in the Interschool Gymkhana event at the Sale Showgrounds on Wednesday 23rd of February. Noah competed in several events and finished in second place in “Rider” , 5th place in the event “Pleasure”, 3rd place in the event “Bending Poles”, 2nd place in the event “Mug Race” and 5th place in “Jumping”. Noah also won reserve champion for Grade 1. On behalf of the school I would like to congratulate Noah on his outstanding achievements at the Interschool Gymkhana in Sale. SEDA College - Sports Program
On Tuesday 8th March around 15 students from SEDA College in Traralgon taught students important skills in the games of Netball, Soccer, Basketball and Football. The Yr 6 students had skill lessons in athletics including hurdles, long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put and high jump. The SEDA students will give 45 minute lessons to different year groups at school. I would like to thank Mr Hammond the Principal of SEDA college for initiating this program with the school. The SEDA students will be running their program on 29th of March and 5th of April.
Athletics - (New set date Tuesday 15th March for Yrs 3-6 Carnival.)
Next Tuesday the students in Years 3-6 will compete in the Annual School Athletic Carnival. The students will be participating in the following events: 100m sprints, 200m, 800m, hurdles, long jump, triple jump and discus earning points for their respective house teams. The students are to wear their house colour T-shirt on the day and will be bused to Harold Preston Park from school at 9.10am and arrive back at school around 2.30pm. I would like to thank Troy Villani for his assistance to set up in the morning. Those parents who have also indicated they can help with setting up, if you could meet myself and Troy anytime from 7.30am at Harold Preston Park to help with setting up gazebos, shot put and discus nets etc. Your help will be greatly appreciated. To those parents who have volunteered to help with events I will send a text message to your phone over the long weekend - stating where you will be needed on the day. On another note the Junior Athletic Carnival (P-Yr 2) is scheduled for term 4 on Friday 4th of November.
