Wellbeing Updates

VIA Character Strengths Video

Have you ever wondered what it is that makes you uniquely different? There are many influential factors, but the VIA Character Strengths Survey is one inventory we can use to help us identify our more naturally occurring strengths, gifts and talents.
During Term 2 and Term 3, the students and staff at St Gabriel's will be looking to identify their unique strengths profile and embrace how it contributes to making them unique, different and special. We will learn how to use our strengths to help us build resilience, self efficacy and improve our overall sense of wellbeing.
If you would like to learn more about how you can help your child be their best self, please read our newsletter article, Be Your Best Self, and watch the following clip on this link below:

The Stand Up Project

Congratulation to Billie S and Lucy C from Y6 Blue who completed a two day leadership workshop with Ms Greer and the team from The Stand Up Project. The students attended theory sessions looking at :

1. psychological phenomenon and theories to explain group behaviour,
2. mental health data from the Latrobe Valley area focusing on the impact of bullying on the victim, offender, teachers and parents,
3. Strategies for safely and effectively combating bullying in schools and wider community

The students collaborated with students from seven other schools to then create lesson plans so they could go and deliver this valuable information to their school community to promote UPSTANDER behaviour. Furthermore, Billy and Lucy were part of a group that presented to members from the Latrobe City Council about how we could develop community awareness to reduce bystander and increase upstander behaviours.

Our St Gabriel’s students were pushed out of their comfort zone and embraced the challenges they were presented with. The students say they are ‘looking forward to working with Ms Greer and a small team of peers to present their new knowledge to St Gabriel’s and helping make our school an even better place for positive friendships and respect to grow.’
