Dear Parents, Guardians & Carers,
Welcome back to term 4. We trust that you had a safe and happy September break. Once again we have a busy term coming up and we are looking forward to a number of special events. Please ensure you are regularly reading the newsletter and checking for emails so you have the most up to date information.
Congratulations to the 25 students who represented our school at the Regional Athletics on Tuesday. Also a big thank you to Mr Hogan for his training of the students and all of the administration required to ensure our students can participate.
We also wish Sierra Colantuono all the very best for the coming week as she represents Victoria in the Primary School Australian Championships for soccer in Western Australia. We can’t wait to hear all about your experience.
Years 3, 4 & 6 will be participating in their camping programs this term. All details will be coming out shortly.
Before and After school supervision
A reminder that our gates open at 8.30am each morning. Children are not supervised prior to this time. If you are required to drop them off earlier due to work commitments in the case of an emergency then please contact the school to let us know. School ends at 3.20pm each day. Students are required to be picked up as close to that time as possible. Teaching staff who are on gate C are required to supervise students who are waiting for the bus. We respectfully request that children do not stay within the school grounds to play after 3.30pm.
COVID Information
An email was sent out during the week with information regarding the changes made by the government in regards to COVID isolation etc and how this relates to schools.
First Eucharist Sacramental Meeting
Grade 4 students will be receiving the Sacrament of First Eucharist in November.
A parent / student workshop will be held at 6.00pm Wednesday 19th October in St. Michael's Church.

Basketball - Hooptime Regional Championships
The St Gabriel’s girl basketball team will compete in the Regional Hooptime Basketball tournament in Traralgon on Thursday 20th October. I would like to thank Mrs Liesl Sexton for giving up her time to coach the girls on the day. On behalf of the school I would like to wish the team all the very best for the competition.
Regional Athletic Championships: Tuesday 11th October
On Tuesday 11th October in warm sunny conditions, 25 students from St Gabriel’s competed in the SSV Gippsland Regional Athletic Championship at Joe Carmody’s Reserve in Newborough. All students showed great enthusiasm and determination as they competed in their individual events or team events. The students were wonderful in encouraging other students to do their best as they competed. The girls Under 11 Relay team consisting of Lexi and Peyton Schroeter, Celi Coulthard and Aaliyah Judilla finished in 1st place and will now compete in the State Athletics Championships in Melbourne on Wednesday 2nd November. Also going through to the State Athletics championships in Melbourne is Dempsey Podmore who finished in 2nd place in the Under 12/13 Boys 1500m, Aaliyah Judilla who finished in second place in 11 girls 1500m, Anna Shine finished in first place in the Under 9/10 girls 200m and 80m Hurdles, Lexie Schroeter finished in first place in the Under 11 girls 80 m Hurdles. I would like to thank Mrs Holt for her role in assisting at the Discus event on the day and checking on the welfare of the students. Mr and Mrs Podmore for supplying shelter for the team.
Prep - Yr 2 Swimming Program - (Monday 17th October - Tuesday 29th October)
This is a notice to let parents know that school swimming programs for all students in Grade Prep, One and two will be held at the Ford Swimming Centre in Traralgon commencing in term 4 on Monday 17th of October and finishing on Thursday 29th of October. All details about this program and permission notices have been sent home to all families via school electronic system (PAM) and a hard copy survey has also been sent home for parents to complete and return back to school as soon as possible. I would like to thank all the parents who have returned their surveys. Prep - Yr 2 Athletic Carnival - (Friday November 4th)
The Prep to Year 2 athletic carnival to be held at St Gabriel’s P.S. on Friday 4th November. The students will participate in a number of events including hurdles, discus, long jump, shot put, vortex throwing and sprints. More details about this event will be sent home to all families next week.
Sporting Achievements: Sierra Colantuono Soccer
This weekend Sierra Colantuono will be flying over to Western Australia as a team member of the Victorian Under 12/13 School Sport Victorian Soccer team to play in the Australian Football/Soccer Championships to be held in Rockingham Western Australia from 16th October to 21st October. Sierra has had to attend many training sessions in Melbourne to make this team. On behalf of the school I would like to wish Sierra all the very best in the Australian Championships and we look forward to hearing about the tournament on your return to school in a few weeks time. Sporting Achievements: Lucy Magaldi
Earlier this year Lucy Magaldi represented Traralgon Harriers with another junior named Miles Vershuur. Both are the only two juniors from the Traralgon Harriers Club that are competing in the Victorian Athletics XCR series (cross country racing) which is made up of 10 rounds with a mix of individual and relay events. This weekend we are heading to Rd 4 at St Anne's Winery in Myrniong for an Ekiden Relay. Lucy is running in the division 2 women’s team while Miles is running division’s 3 men's. Please see photo attached.

Signing children in and out of school
If your child needs to leave early, or has an appointment, then parents must sign in when they return/arrive. A note must be supplied to the classroom teacher so that they are aware of why the child is leaving and they can then record the absence. Alternatively this can be entered as PNA via PAM.
If your child is unwell to speed up their recovery by not allowing your child to return to school until they are fully recovered.
School Lunch Orders
Change to Lunch Order Days.
LUNCH ORDERS ARE NOW MONDAY AND THURSDAY ONLY
Monday orders are to be placed in classroom tubs first thing Monday morning.
Thursday orders are to be placed in classroom tubs first thing Thursday morning.
NOTE: Please write clearly on an envelope the child’s name and grade and the item they wish to order. Correctt money only will be accepted.
St Gabriel's Uniform Shop
The St. Gabriel's Uniform shop operates Tuesday 8.30am - 9.30am and Thursday from 2pm - 4pm. Order forms are available at the school office if you are unable to attend the uniform shop during these times.
The Uniform Shop is located at the rear of the school hall off the hall foyer.
Working With Children Check
If you have recently updated your WWCC please provide a copy of your new card to the office at your earliest convenience.
If you are a volunteer providing your valued service to St Gabriel's please ensure that we have a current up to date card on file.
