Grandparents Day
Last week we welcomed over 400 grandparents to our school during the morning. It was pleasing to see the smiles on the students' and grandparents' faces as they proudly completed activities together in their classrooms and they showed them to their siblings' classrooms. It felt so good to have people back in the school again.
Colour Run
What a fun day we had on Friday afternoon at our Inaugural Colour Run. Once again we had many parents onsite to view the fun. We even heard the words “This is my best day of school ever.” A massive thank you to our P&F team who organised the day. We would also like to say thank you to the following businesses who donated prizes: Aygee Gippsland, Gumbuya World & Cafe Eviva.
We are very excited to be able to move into our new building as of Monday 5th December. You will have received an email which will provide you with all of the information that you need to know regarding our temporary administration area etc.
Kind regards,
Michelle Charlton

Prep - Yr 2 Athletic Carnival - Friday 18th November
It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents attend the recent Junior Athletic Carnival on Friday 18th of November. The weather couldn’t have been any better as the students participated in the warm sunny conditions. Firstly I would like to thank Troy Villani, a parent at our school and also on the Traralgon little Athletics Committee who was able to mark lanes for the running track on the Wednesday prior to the event. These lanes definitely assisted in helping the students run in a straight line. Early in the morning on the day of the event Mrs Haney and a number of staff assisted me in setting up for the event and I would also like to thank them for their support and all the teachers and educational support officers who encouraged and assisted in the smooth running of the program on the day. I would like to congratulate all the Year 6 students who assisted on the day. They displayed outstanding leadership in directing and assisting the students in their events on the day. I would like to congratulate the students from Prep to year 2 for the way they participated in all their activities and running events. The students displayed a positive attitude and I could see them all trying their best to improve in the techniques required to participate in that event e.g. high jump, discus, long jump, shot put, skipping, hurdles, vortex throwing, and egg and spoon relay.
Hooptime Basketball Championship - Tuesday 22nd November
The Grade 5 & 6 Basketball team recently played in the State Basketball Hooptime competition in Dandenong. The team played a total of 5 games for the tournament . They won two games and lost 2 games and drew the other game. They played against St Bridgid’s Healesville, Wattle Park P.S, Hamilton Gray St, Malvern Park and Niddrie P.S . At completion of the first four rounds the girls just missed out on playing in the elimination finals round and played against Niddrie Essendon P.S for 13th place in the competition out of 20 teams. The girls won the game 15 to 8. Throughout the tournament the girls played as a great team sharing the ball around and assisting each other in creating many scoring opportunities. On the day the girls paraded around the court with all the other teams in attendance and received a t-shirt and a basketball for their outstanding efforts from Basketball Victoria. On behalf of the school I would like to thank Leiesl Sexton for coaching the girls throughout the entire Hooptime tournament and encouraging the girls to be the best team players they could be. A special thank you to Mrs Mihaly who attended to the girls first aid needs throughout the tournament and a big thank you to all the parents who supported and encouraged the team and their child at the State tournament.
Cricket Blast Competition - Wednesday 9th November
On Wednesday 9th November 5 cricket teams from Year 6 competed in the Latrobe Valley Division Cricket Blast competition. The competition was held at the Traralgon West Sporting Complex. All 5 teams played with great skill and all displayed excellent sportsmanship. On the day the Girl’s A team won all their games and made it to the next level - Region Cricket Blast played at Newborough on Wednesday 16 November. All the boys teams and the other girls team won and lost games but did not make it through to the next level.
Sporting Achievement: (Swimming )
On 5th November, Harry Kurrle, Aliza Couling, Darcey Couling and Bailey Heafield went to Melbourne to swim in the Gippsland District Competition. Bailey came 5th overall for his backstroke and Harry Kurrle came 3rd in his butterfly, Aliza came 23rd for her butterfly and Darcy 12th in her breaststroke. On behalf of the school I would like to congratulate all four swimmers on your outstanding achievements at the Gippsland District Swimming Competition. See photo attached.
Rebel Sports Store - (School Link Membership)
I would like to thank the parents in the school community who have linked their membership at Rebel sports store with St Gabriels P.S. The school this year has received just under $400 dollars to spend at Rebel Sports on sports equipment for the school. If you are thinking of spending money at Rebel Sports store and if you become a member by linking your membership to the School this allows the school to earn points and purchase equipment for the school. I would like to thank you all for your support in helping our school gain extra sports equipment for students at St Gabriel’s.

Signing children in and out of school and Absentee notifications

If your child is unwell to speed up their recovery by not allowing your child to return to school until they are fully recovered.
